Framing of paintings, 3-dimensional artwork, prints, photographs, pastel drawings, needlework, small artefacts

Materials

A wide range of mouldings (frames) are held in stock but Ridgeway is not tied to an individual supplier so it is always possible to experiment and obtain samples.  The mountboard used as standard is acid free and of good quality.  Generally 2mm float glass is used, but for larger works it may be advisable to use 3mm float or clear acrylic glazing.  Suppliers include Simons, Ashworth and Thompson, Frinton Mouldings, Wessex Framing, Nielson.

Standards

Ridgeway Framing uses reversible methods for fixing artwork, acid free mountboard and 2mm float glass as a minimum.  Ridgeway will repair frames where the customer requires it and it is appropriate and cost effective to do so.

Principles of Framing

Works are framed to protect and enhance them.  There are no strict rules.  Ridgeway keeps up to date with new developments in framing materials.  Fashions may change but framing is personal.  It is important for the framer to listen, understand and suggest solutions.  Ridgeway Framing is able to take the time to offer a personal service.   It is a testament to Ridgeway Framing that regular customers often give only the barest indication of how they would like a work framed – they trust that they will be happy with the outcome.
